The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel arrives on Prime Video soon, and fan speculation has been intense.
The first season introduces a diverse group of characters living within Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other with songs about their clashes, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that drive fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season differ greatly, but certain themes emerge over and over: Could Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the creator commented earlier this year. "However I feel like me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That could imply viewers have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how fast season 2 progresses, and how much of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we get some incredible disclosures, some fascinating backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — particularly in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a few fans create a prediction grid about the new season," she says. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've actually done some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on the streaming service on October 29.
