The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading film company and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
